Peaks 'very happy' as Diamonds take charge at the top

The hosts had goalkeeper Jack Sillitoe sent-off in the first half with midfielder Greg Williams having to take over the gloves.

And, although Diamonds took the lead through Tom Lorraine, they were then frustrated as Williams pulled off a series of fine stops to deny them in the second half.

Aylesbury had another man sent-off and Diamonds finally finished the job when Lorraine grabbed his second of the night in stoppage-time.

The win was Diamonds’ sixth in a row while they also kept a clean sheet for the fourth successive match.

And boss Peaks said: “It was a different challenge to what we faced in the games before it and I am very happy.

“It was a tough night, the conditions were not the best because Chesham had played on the pitch the night before so it wasn’t easy to pass the ball on there.

“It would have been nice to get the second goal earlier than we did.

“But we have to give credit to their stand-in goalkeeper who made some fantastic saves.

“And while it is 1-0, you are always wary that one mistake or a set-piece could pay off for them.

“We can play better than we did but this was all about going to a tough place in midweek and seeing if we could get the job done.

“We came away with three points. That was the aim and we are happy with it.”

Diamonds are back on the road at the weekend when they head to Aylesbury FC.
