Andy Peaks is hoping the weather will give AFC Rushden & Diamonds a chance for a run of matches as they eye up promotion in the Evo-Stik South League East.

Diamonds saw Tuesday’s clash with fellow high-fliers AFC Dunstable postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Hayden Road as they missed a chance to build on last weekend’s 2-0 success at Barton Rovers.

Peaks and his players are now hoping they will get some match action at Hayden Road tomorrow (Saturday) when they take on Aylesbury.

“It’s frustrating because we can’t seem to get a run of games going,” the Diamonds boss said.

“But there’s nothing we can do about the weather, all we can do is train well and make sure we are ready for the next game.

“That’s what we have done since Christmas really because it has been a bit stop-start.

“Hopefully the weather will hold for the weekend, we will get the game on and we will be looking for another three points.

“I think there have been a lot of changes at Aylesbury recently so their team will be a bit different from the last time we played them.

“But, as I always say, it’s about us and what we do. We are in a good position and we want to stay there.”

Diamonds have designated tomorrow's game as a ‘Pay What You Want’ fixture with supporters able to donate what they like to the club when coming through the turnstiles instead of the usual matchday prices.

Season tickets will be valid as usual with all other supporters being able to take up this offer.

And Peaks added: ““I am sure there will be plenty of people looking for a football fix and hopefully this idea that the club are doing will bring a few more through the gate.

“We want big crowds watching us and we have put a good team on the pitch for the fans this season.

“Hopefully there will be some new faces there and we will do all we can to put on a show and encourage them to come back again.”
