Peaks has his priorities ahead of Diamonds' pivotal weekend

But Diamonds head to title-chasing Egham Town this weekend, still with an outside chance of claiming the championship themselves.

While Diamonds were cruising to a 4-0 success over Barton Rovers on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Claudiu Hoban, Jon Stevenson, Jason Lee and debutant Jack Bowen, leaders Egham conceded a late equaliser in their 2-2 draw with Fleet Town.

A win for Peaks’ side on Saturday will all-but assure them of a top-five finish but will also move them to within two points of Egham with a game to play.

Kings Langley and Royston Town still have one match extra to play next Tuesday night and could take everything out of Diamonds’ hands as far as the title is concerned.

But while there is all to play for, Peaks wants his team ready for a pivotal weekend.

“It’s the sort of game you want to be involved in,” the Diamonds boss said.

“But, ultimately, it’s all about three points.

“We gave them a good game at our place (in a 1-0 defeat in December) and I felt they snatched the win from us that night.

“But the league table doesn’t lie at this stage of the season.

“They are up there for a reason. They’re obviously a very good team.

“We have got confidence that we need to build on and we will just be focused on going there to try to win the game.

“For me, the most important thing is securing a play-off place and if we can 
do that with a win at Egham then it may even give us a chance to win the title on the last day.

“That’s dependent on others though. We have to do our job and I am staying as realistic as ever.

“I am not going to go overboard after Tuesday’s win, just like I didn’t overreact after the defeat at Arlesey the week before.

“It’s been a good season so far and if I had given anyone this situation going into the final week then I am sure they would have taken it.”
