Andy Peaks is confident AFC Rushden & Diamonds will be competitive again next season, regardless of what league they find themselves in.

Diamonds signed off for the season with a 2-1 success over Kettering Town at Sixfields on Thursday night, a win secured by Jack Ashton’s dramatic stoppage-time header.

Peaks has declared it a good season for the club, even though they suffered the heartbreak of an Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central play-off final defeat at St Ives Town last Monday.

The Diamonds boss is expecting to speak to the club’s board about the plans for next season this week.

Diamonds are facing the prospect of possibly being switched to the Evo-Stik Northern League Division One South for the next campaign.

But Peaks is confident his team will be a force, no matter what division they placed in.

“We have done what we needed to do on the pitch now,” the Diamonds boss said.

“And I will sit down with the chairman and the board to discuss things.

“We don’t know what league we will be in but we will have a chat and then the discussions with the players will start.

“For me, I have enjoyed the league we were in this season.

“If we are in a different one then fair enough.

“With the players we have got and maybe a couple of additions, I think we will be competitive in whatever league we are in at this level.”
