Peaks expecting plenty of fan power for Diamonds in play-offs

Diamonds head to Garden Walk for the one-off Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central semi-final against a Crows side who finished second in the table, narrowly missing out on the title, which was won by Kings Langley.

Peaks’ side, who finished fifth, rounded off their regular season with a 2-0 home success over Godalming Town.

The winners of tomorrow’s clash will meet either Egham Town or St Ives Town in the final on Bank Holiday Monday when the second promotion place to the Premier Division will be on the line.

Should Diamonds win they will again be on the road next Monday regardless of who wins the other semi-final.

But Peaks knows the fans will be ready to travel in numbers tomorrow night.

“Hopefully we will have a lot of fans down there with us,” the Diamonds boss said.

“It was a good turnout for the last game of the season, there was a positive atmosphere and the supporters got behind us.

“It’s a relatively local game, which is good and I am sure the fans will travel in their numbers.”

Diamonds head into the semi-final on the back of a run of four wins from their last six games, which secured a top-five finish in their first season in the division.

And while Peaks knows they face a tough task at Royston, he is feeling relaxed about his team’s chances.

“We have ended up where we wanted to be and there were some who were questioning whether we could hold on to a play-off place a few weeks ago,” he added.

“We’ve actually gone on a nice little run in the last few games of the season and now we have an opportunity in front of us.

“It’s going to be tough because I thought Royston would win the league, they have some good players there.

“But it’s all on one game now and we know what we have to do.”
