With Aidy Boothroyd’s men left to kick their heels after the pitch at Adams Park was deemed unplayable due to waterlogging, rivals Port Vale, Cheltenham and Exeter City all enjoyed victories, with the Robins and Grecians leapfrogging the Cobblers in the table.

But not everybody took advantage, with Rotherham United losing at Cheltenham - they now have no game in hand on the Cobblers and are still below them in seventh - and Burton Albion drawing at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Of the teams challenging to get into the top seven and the play-offs, Chesterfield won and Southend drew, but there were defeats for Fleetwood, Bradford City and Oxford United.

It all means that the Cobblers are sixth in npower League Two, four points behind third-placed Burton, but they do have a game in hand.

Town are five points adrift of second-placed Vale, two points behind fourth-placed Cheltenham and one point behind fifth-placed Exeter. Boothroyd’s men have a game in hand on all of the sides above them in the table, apart from leaders Gillingham who drew 1-1 at Morecambe on Saturday.

The Cobblers are nine points off top spot, and still have a seven-point cushion between themselves and Southend in eighth.

Town are back in action on Saturday when Oxford United are the visitors to Sixfields.

No new date has yet been announced for the rearranged trip to Wycombe.
