The search for the next manager of Burton Park Wanderers has begun after it was revealed that Jimmy Simpson resigned earlier this week.

It has been a tough start to the new UCL Division One season for the Latimer Park club as they sit at the foot of the table with six defeats from as many matches.

Their latest setback was a 6-1 home loss to Potton United last weekend.

Former Kettering Town and Corby Town player Liam Nicell, who has been on the coaching staff at Wanderers, has been placed in temporary charge and willl be supported by Dave Dent and club chairman Stewart Glendenning.

Things don’t get any easier for Wanderers as they take on Thrapston Town in a local derby at Latimer Park on Saturday.

In a statement confirming Simpson’s departure, Glendenning said: “It is with great sadness that I have to inform everybody involved with our club that our first team manager Jimmy Simpson resigned from his position on Monday night.

“With great reluctance I accepted this.

“I would personally like to thank Jimmy for everything that he has done for our club and the support he has given to us.

“Jimmy helped us in our hour of need before the start of last season when we had nothing including no players
at all and despite some very tough times he saw it through for us.

“Over this time both myself and my wife Jane have become good friends with Jimmy and that will not be broken.

“It has been an extremely tough start for us this season with many more tough challenges ahead but it was felt by Jimmy that it was time to give someone else a go and spend some precious time with his family.

“Liam Nicell has been put in temporary charge of first team affairs for the immediate future supported by Dave Dent and myself.”

“Applications are invited for the position of first team manager and anyone who wishes to apply for the role should do so by emailing bpwchairman@hotmail.com only applications in writing will be considered.”

Thrapston head into this weekend’s clash with Wanderers having had their unbeaten start to the league season ended in their last outing as they suffered a 3-2 defeat at Rushden & Higham United.
