Joe Smyth has resigned as manager of ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Division One side Burton Park Wanderers.

Smyth led the way as Wanderers revived their fortunes last season to claim a fine eighth-place finish in Division One.

But he has now decided to step down at Latimer Park, citing changes to the club’s infrastructure as the main reason.

“To be honest, in the last 10 days, the chairman, vice-chairman and secretary have all stepped down,” Smyth said.

“They were the ones who brought me into the club in the first place and, as there are changes to the infrastructure, it seemed right that I should step down.

“Over the past six days, we have lost 10 players and it was proving hard to recruit players.

“The new people have already appointed Jimmy Simpson as the new manager and I wish them well for the future, I have really enjoyed my time at the club.”
