AFC Rushden & Diamonds have the chance to wrap up the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division title tonight (Tuesday).
Andy Peaks’ side, who have already secured promotion, will be crowned champions if they avoid defeat at relegation-threatened Sileby Rangers at Fernie Fields.
Diamonds all-but confirmed the title, due to their superior goal difference, with a 7-0 drubbing of ground neighbours Wellingborough Town at the Dog & Duck on Saturday.
But, with Wisbech Town also winning it means one more point is required to make it mathematically certain.
And, with the main target of promotion already in the bag, boss Peaks wants his team to wrap things up this evening.
“These are exciting times,” he said.
“To be honest, from the club’s point of view the main thing was to earn promotion so it was good to achieve that for them.
“But as a manager and a squad, we really want to win the title. We have a chance to get over the line and we really want to take it.
“The boys have been awesome over the last month or so and Saturday was probably as well as we have played for a number of weeks.
“There isn’t a great deal of love lost between Wellingborough and ourselves so it was nice to get one over them because, in the previous matches, we struggled to break them down.”
Sileby are battling for survival at the other end of the table and Peaks knows his team will be in for a tricky test.
“Sileby have had some encouraging results of late so we know it won’t be easy,” he added.
“They got a good point at Holbeach at the weekend and they are fighting for their lives.
“We have had the same attitude all the way through the season and that is to take each game as it comes and this will be no different.”
Five of the local Division One teams are also in action this evening with two local derbies topping the bill.
Whitworth take on in-form Irchester United at London Road while Burton Park Wanderers, who claimed a welcome 6-1 success over Stewarts & Lloyds at the weekend, entertain Raunds Town at Latimer Park.
Rock-bottom S&L, meanwhile, take on promotion hopefuls Lutterworth Athletic at Occupation Road.
