AFC Rushden & Diamonds continued their charge at the top of the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division by opening up a 10-point lead after thrashing Harrowby United 5-0 at the Dog & Duck.
With second-placed Yaxley losing 2-0 at AFC Kempston and third-placed Holbeach United having their game postponed, Andy Peaks’ side made no mistake as they strengthened their grip on top spot to round off a week, which saw confirmation of the club’s application to be promoted should they win the title.
The damage was done in the first half as Diamonds took a 4-0 lead.
Jason Turner started the rout when he scored from the penalty spot after Elliott Lamb-Johnson had been fouled and Tom Lorraine quickly doubled the advantage.
Adam Confue set up Lamb-Johnson for the third a minute before the break before Confue himself made it 4-0.
Diamonds had to wait until the third minute of stoppage-time to complete the scoring when Lamb-Johnson’s cross was converted by Fazel Koriya.
Desborough Town’s recent good form was ended as they conceded four second-half goals in a 4-0 home defeat to Sleaford Town.
Scott Coupland put the visitors in front soon after the break and they didn’t look back as Ryan Parnell, David Hone and Euan Clarke completed the scoring.
Whitworth stayed in touch with the leaders highest scorers in Division One hammered Blackstones 6-1.
Deven Ellwood opened the scoring before Jamie White and Dave Miles made it 3-0.
Ellwood added his second just before half-time and the goals continued to flow after the break with Matt Judge grabbing the fifth on 63 minutes.
Ellwood missed a penalty but did complete his hat-trick for the Flourmen before Addie Staffieri scored Blackstones’ consolation late on.
Raunds Town piled the misery on rock-bottom Stewarts & Lloyds with a 7-1 demolition at Kiln Park.
Karl King’s brace put the Shopmates 2-0 up inside 14 minutes before Jamie Russell and Dave Townsend made it 4-0 before half-time.
Townsend’s second made it five in the second period but Matt Keenleyside pulled one back for the Foundrymen.
However, that was as good as it got for the Corby side as their 21st defeat in as many matches was confirmed by King completing his hat-trick and Zack Mills grabbing the seventh late on.
Rushden & Higham United’s winning run was ended in a 3-2 loss at Olney Town.
Matt Old struck twice to give the hosts a 2-0 lead but Lewis O’Dell pulled one back before the break.
Daryl Smith restored Olney’s two-goal lead in the second period but the Lankies were always in the contest, although they could only grab one more goal thanks to Jordan Pendered.
Burton Park Wanderers conceded four goals in the final 22 minutes as they went down 5-2 at Woodford United.
The hosts took the lead through Adam Creaney but that was cancelled out by Ryan Duffy’s own-goal before Lynval Da Costa put Wanderers 2-1 up on 59 minutes.
But the home side’s player-manager Adam Knight equalised and that goal opened the floodgates with Ben Foster making it 3-2 before Knight completed a hat-trick with further efforts in the final 11 minutes.
