Management duo Matty Freeman and Steve Sargent have been sacked by ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Division One side Whitworth.
It proved to be a difficult campaign for the London Road side as they ended the season with just two wins in their last 11 matches having been tipped to be amongst the frontrunners last summer.
Sargent confirmed the news on the UCL’s Facebook page and said: “Matty and I have been sacked from Whitworth. We really enjoyed our time at the club especially last season.
“This season has been too difficult to navigate through. Some of the sides have simply been too good for us and it has cost us.
“The UCL and all its supporters have been fantastic. It’s truly a great league to manage and play in.
“Personally, I’ve met some lovely people, some great managers and admired some great skills and commitment from players.”
The curtain, meanwhile, finally came down on the Premier Division season on Thursday night as Wellingborough Town ended on a high note.
They travelled to Boston Town and returned home with a 2-1 success thanks to goals from Rob Parker and Chris Davies.
It meant Craig Adams’ side climbed out of the bottom six having looked certainties for relegation at Christmas before a remarkable turnaround.
