Rob Foster scored twice as Rothwell Corinthians returned to action with a much-needed 3-1 victory at Northampton Spencer in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division yesterday (Monday).
Foster opened the scoring five minutes in and Joe Wright doubled the advantage soon after.
Spencer, who had been unbeaten in five matches before this one, pulled a goal back through Ryan Dove.
But Foster secured a first win in five for Shaun Sparrow’s side with his second of the game on 52 minutes.
Desborough Town battled back from a goal down to beat Sileby Rangers 2-1 at the Waterworks Field.
Sileby took the lead on 62 minutes but Ar Tarn levelled soon after, courtesy of a Leo Adams header.
And Chris Bradshaw’s team wrapped up the three points with nine minutes to go when a Jake Bettles run set up Jason Turner for the winner.
Wellingborough Town turned in a resilient display against unbeaten AFC Kempston Rovers but their resistance was finally broken late on.
Both sides had a man sent off in a game of few chances but the decisive moment came on 78 minutes when Vinny Shrieves struck to secure a 1-0 win for the second-placed hosts.
The only Division One game involving a local club to survive the weather was at London Road where Whitworth suffered a heavy 6-1 home defeat to second-placed ON Chenecks.
All the damage was done in a devastating first half.
Goals from Adam Spalding, Tom Heathfield and Ben Diamond put Chenecks 3-0 up before Cavell Jarvis pulled one back just past the half-hour.
But Ben Foster and Spalding struck again before the break and Foster added the sixth two minutes into the second period.
