AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Desborough Town maintained their interest in the FA Vase as both sides moved into the second round with victories on the road.
It proved to be a comfortable day for Mark Starmer’s Diamonds as they bounced back from a midweek defeat to Peterborough Northern Star in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division.
They headed to UCL Division One bottom markers Woodford United as heavy favourites and eventually justified that tag with a 6-0 success.
It was only 1-0 at the break as Russ Dunkley’s goal separated the sides at half-time but Diamonds ran away with it after Nat Liburd and Alfie Taylor made it 3-0 early in the second period.
Matt Gearing hit the fourth before Fazel Koriya rounded things off with a late brace.
Michael Byrne was at it again for Desborough as their trip to Nottinghamshire proved to be a fruitful one as they returned from Hucknall Town with a 3-1 victory.
Byrne put Ar Tarn in front after five minutes but John Whetton levelled before Mark Forbes restored Desborough’s advantage.
And Byrne’s second goal of the afternoon killed the game off just before the hour mark.
Stewarts & Lloyds, however, saw their run in the competition ended at Occupation Road as Loughborough University claimed a 2-1 success.
It was looking good for Kevin Byrne’s side when debutant Jay Arnold gave them the lead nine minutes into the second half.
But Sam Cooke equalised after 73 minutes and the visitors sealed their win seven minutes from full-time through Jordan Poxon.
