Tommy Berwick is set to make his debut for AFC Rushden & Diamonds in Saturday’s showdown at Holbeach United.

The former Corby Town and Daventry Town frontman was heavily linked with a move to the Dog & Duck during last week and the signing was confirmed at the weekend after Diamonds had moved eight points clear at the top of the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division thanks to a 3-0 home success over Sleaford Town on Saturday.

Berwick helped Daventry to a UCL title during one of his stints at Communications Park.

And the 27-year-old will be looking to do the same again with Diamonds this season. They head to second-placed Holbeach at the weekend with a big advantage at the top, although the Tigers do have four games in hand.

Following the completion of his move to Diamonds, Berwick said: “The last time I played in the UCL I had a great partnership with (current Diamonds striker Russ) Dunkley as I played on the last man and read his flick ons.

“However I am happy to play with anyone or up top on my own, what they (the fans) will see is 100 per cent effort, all action, and ultimately goals.

“It’s a great move for me, I haven’t really been settled since I left Corby last season and when I spoke with Andy (manager Peaks) and Paul (assistant-manager Lamb) it was an easy decision.

“I have played at a higher level but this is a level I know very well, I have played in the UCL, won the UCL and finished top scorer in the UCL and I am really looking forward to the challenge and hopefully help Diamonds to promotion this season.”

Peaks added: “I am really pleased to sign Tommy.

“He’s a proven goalscorer and comes with a great pedigree, having played at a higher level consistently.

“He’s very hungry and I have been very impressed by his attitude, I know he’s looking forward to the challenge and can’t wait to get started”.
