Aidy Mann isn’t about to get carried away by Rushden & Higham United’s excellent start to the new ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Division One campaign.

The Lankies followed up their 3-2 win at St Neots Saints on the opening day with a superb 5-2 success over ON Chenecks at Hayden Road on Tuesday night.

Mann takes his team to Blackstones tomorrow (Saturday) and while he admitted his team are “flying”, he won’t allow anyone to get ahead of themselves.

“If you had given me those results this time last week I would have snatched your hand off,” Mann said.

“The main thing for us to concentration. We were 3-1 up at St Neots and then allowed them back into it and we were hanging on towards the end.

“And on Tuesday, we were cruising at 4-0 up and then conceded.

“We haven’t had a good goal scored against us yet and that is the one thing to be wary of.

“But the lads are flying and I am obviously very pleased.

“We came back early for pre-season and all the work we have done seems to be paying off.

“But we won’t get carried away. And I will give them another rocket at the weekend before they go out there to make sure they keep their concentration.”

Rothwell Corinthians hit back from a 2-1 opening-day defeat to Chenecks by thrashing local rivals Thrapston Town 4-0 at Sergeants Lawn on Tuesday night.

That came after Thrapston had kicked off with an impressive 3-2 victory at Bugbrooke.

Irchester United started their season with a fine 7-3 success at Bourne but were beaten 4-1 at Bugbrooke in midweek. They head to Lutterworth Athletic tomorrow.

Whitworth are the early leaders of the division after they followed their 3-0 success at Stewarts & Lloyds with a fine 8-0 drubbing of Burton Park Wanderers who had opened with a 0-0 stalemate at Olney Town.

Burton host Bugbrooke this weekend while the table-topping Flourmen head to Buckingham Town.

Raunds Town also have a perfect record thanks to 2-1 and 4-1 victories at Woodford United and Blackstones respectively.

They host Corinthians tomorrow while S&L, beaten 4-0 at Lutterworth on Tuesday, take on Thrapston in a local derby at Occupation Road.
