No time to dwell as Steelmen head into a huge week

Gary Mills insists Corby Town have no time to dwell on their 3-0 defeat at Barwell as they face up to what he believes is one of most important weeks in the club's history.

The Steelmen were well beaten yesterday with the only positive being that the majority of the teams around them in the battle to avoid the drop from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division also lost.

But the next two games will go a long way into deciding the fate of Mills’ men this season.

The loss at Barwell has left them in the place immediately above the relegation zone but only goal difference is keeping them above Frickley Athletic.

Now they are preparing to travel to Marine, the team just one point above them, on Tuesday night before welcoming them to Steel Park next weekend.

Mills is fully aware of just how important the next week will be but he insists the squad will “remain upbeat” after a fine run since the turn of the year that has given them a chance of avoiding a second relegation in the space of a year.

“We actually started the game okay but silly mistakes cost us, we didn’t do the basics well enough,” he said as he reflected on the defeat at Barwell.

“They scored a goal out of nothing in the first half but, overall, the most disappointing thing was that they didn’t really have to work for any of their goals.

“We haven’t got time to dwell on it. It is a huge week for the football club, probably one of the biggest weeks ever for it.

“We have had the chat after the game and now we will dust ourselves down and get ready for two massive games.

“It’s important we don’t lose sight of what this group of lads has achieved in the past few weeks.

“We will remain upbeat and we will go into the week full of confidence.”
