Moore is the right sort of player and person for Mills' Steelmen

Corby Town boss Gary Mills was delighted after securing the loan signing of striker Stefan Moore

The prolific striker joined the Steelmen on loan from Vanarama National League side Solihull Moors this week as new boss Mills looks to solve the goalscoring issue at Steel Park.

Mills suffered a third successive defeat since taking charge of the club as a 2-0 loss to Stafford Rangers in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy was followed by the Steelmen being beaten 1-0 at Stourbridge in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division on Monday night.

And he wasted little time in adding his biggest signing yet with the addition of Moore.

The frontman has scored over 180 goals in non-League football following spells with the likes of St Neots Town, Leamington and Brackley Town.

Mills, who was appreciative of the board’s backing in getting the deal over the line, believes Moore fits the bill for what he needs as Corby face up to another relegation battle.

And he also revealed there could yet be more new arrivals to come.

“Stefan has a reputation for scoring goals wherever he has been and I am delighted we have managed to get him here,” the Steelmen boss said.

“He is experienced, he’s played at a good level, he’s a good player and he is a good person.

“I want to bring in good players but I want good people around the club as well.

“It’s a good signing and a huge boost for everyone with the quality that he brings.

“There will still be one or two more coming in.

“The places needs a shake-up and hopefully there will be a couple more through the door to improve the squad.

“I really want to thank the board for backing me with this signing.

“They have been fantastic to me and they are right behind me as we look to turn things around.”

The Steelmen are without a game this weekend after their long trip to Workington was switched to a week on Saturday.

Mills confirmed his players will be in for training on Saturday as they begin their preparations for next Tuesday’s NFA Hillier Cup quarter-final at United Counties League side Cogenhoe United.

“The little break gives us a chance to train and work on things,” he added.

“We are training again on Saturday and then we have the game at Cogenhoe to look forward to on Tuesday.”
