Corby Town chairman Stevie Noble says Gary Mills “ticked all the boxes” after he was confirmed as the club’s new manager.

The vastly-experienced Mills, who has managed the likes of York City, Wrexham and Gateshead in the past, was unveiled at Steel Park last weekend after an extensive managerial search by the club.

Noble was left impressed by the standard of candidates that the job attracted but conceded the cream rose to the top when it came to Mills.

“We all want success and we all want smiles on our faces,” Noble said.

“The whole country needs a lift, certainly Corby needs a lift and the football club will hopefully do our part.

“Gary shows our intent. He is an absolute gentleman and a good football manager and those are not bad attributes to have.

“We were worried about the Covid-19 circumstances and whether people would be comfortable with coming in because it’s not good interviewing over the internet.

“We advertised the job and the quality of the candidates was unbelievable and I’d like to thank everyone who came and gave us their time.

“Gary’s CV is incredible but the quality of the other lads was absolutely first class. We had to do our work and cream does rise to the top.

“Gary ticked every box. While some might have had his experience or his contacts and everything you need to be a successful manager in non-League football, he ticked all the boxes.”

Noble, meanwhile, insists the hard work will continue behind the scenes at Steel Park as the club bids to launch another promotion push in the Southern League Division One Central next season.

And the Steelmen chairman is adamant that no-one at Corby will be resting on their laurels.

“If anybody knows anyone around the place, from top to bottom, we are a very hard working club,” Noble added.

“We certainly don’t rest on our laurels. There has been a lot of hard work, effort and money gone into the last two seasons and we will never know if we would have finished the job last time.

“That ship has sailed but we now have the opportunity to establish ourselves with new leadership.

“We have to be better on the pitch. We are at the level we are at because that’s how good we have been and nobody at Corby thinks anyone owes us something.

“The only way we are going to climb up is through hard work and intelligence.”
