Gary Mills is keen to see his Corby Town players put their disappointing FA Cup exit behind them and “hit the ground running” in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central.

The Steelmen take on Aylesbury United at Steel Park tomorrow (Saturday) having suffered a penalty shoot-out loss after a 1-1 draw at Mildenhall Town in the preliminary round of the FA Cup last weekend.

But Mills is now focused on the main aim for the campaign and that is to try to launch a promotion push.

The capacity at Steel Park for this weekend and the immediate future is capped at 400 due to current Covid-19 guidelines.

And Mills wants his players to give those who are able to attend a first real glimpse of “what we are all about”.

“It’s always disappointing to go out as early as that in the FA Cup but we went down to the lottery of penalties and unfortunately, we lost out,” the Corby boss said.

“We have to get over things like that and make sure we are ready for the league to start.

“The reason I am at Corby is to try to get them out of the league they are in, it’s the reason they employed me and it’s what I am setting out to do.

“I have only been at the club a few weeks still so it’s important that we try to hit the ground running and it’s important the players know what we need to do to go forward with the league campaign.

“The first one is at home and I am looking forward to it.

“It’s a shame in a way because I think we would have got more than the number we are allowed and hopefully it won’t be too long before we can let everyone who wants to come into the ground.

“But it will still be a decent crowd and my team have got to go and show them what we are all about.”
