Tommy Wright knows Corby Town face a “potential banana skin” when they head to bottom side Bashley in the Calor League Premier Division tonight (Tuesday).
But the Steelmen joint-boss is well aware that anything less than a three-point return could see their bid for a late dash for the play-off places end before it has even begun.
Wright and fellow manager Andrew Wilson have been vocal about their desire to push their team into the upper reaches of the table in the remainder of the campaign.
But their hopes suffered a setback when they were beaten 1-0 at Weymouth on Saturday.
And Wright knows his team now have a good chance to get back on track against a Bashley side who are yet to win at home this season, although they did pick up a surprise 2-1 success at Frome Town at the weekend.
“I think it is a great opportunity for us,” Wright said.
“But they won at the weekend so we do have to be very wary of them. It is a potential banana skin for us.
“I am sure a lot of people will be expecting us to go down there and win the game but football doesn’t always deliver what you expect.
“I am confident we can go there and get three points and it will become harder to bang the drum about trying to get into the play-offs if we lose games like this.”
The Steelmen will be boosted by having both Wright and central defender Paul Malone back in the squad this evening after they missed the defeat at Weymouth due to one-match bans.
And Malone’s return could be very timely after Wright confirmed recent signing Nathan Stanton could miss the game due to a dead leg he suffered at the weekend.
“I think me and Paul do make the squad stronger and now it is all about competition for places,” Wright added.
“If lads get the chance to wear the shirt then they have to try to keep it.
“Stan (Wilson) and I will come up with a team that we believe can win the game. We got beaten at the weekend so there probably will be changes.
“Aman Verma and Nathan both picked up knocks on Saturday and we will have to check on Nathan because it was quite a bad dead leg.
“I would say Aman has the better chance of the two of being fit for the game.”
