Tommy Wright has described Ash Sammons as “one of the best finishers” he has ever seen.
The midfielder, who joined Corby Town from Redditch United over the summer, has enjoyed a superb start to the Vanarama National League North campaign.
Sammons moved to the top of the league’s early leading goalscorers chart after he hit his fourth and fifth of the season in the Steelmen’s 2-2 draw with Chorley at Steel Park on Saturday.
And boss Wright has admitted his side are fortunate to have a player in such fine form so early in the campaign.
“Everything he is hitting at the moment is going in and I think it has done for the past couple of years,” the Corby manager said.
“We do a lot of finishing in training and he is one of the best I have ever seen.
“He hits everything so clean and so well, he just scores goals and we are very lucky to have him.”
The Steelmen will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign when they head to Hednesford Town tomorrow (Tuesday) night.
And, after a physically-draining clash against Chorley on Saturday, Wright will assess his squad closely before picking his team.
“We will have a little look at it and have a chat with the boys to see how they are feeling physically,” the Steelmen boss added.
“It was a hard game of football on Saturday. They (Chorley) were a very direct team with some good players in there.
“It would have taken a lot of energy out of the boys.”
