Corby Town made it back-to-back away wins in the Calor League Premier Division with a fine 2-0 success at Hitchin Town.

The Steelmen were forced to hold on in the latter stages after goalkeeper Paul Walker was sent off for handling outside the area.

But they saw the game out to gain revenge on a Hitchin side who recorded a 2-1 success at Steel Park in November.

After a goalless first half, there was a brief break at the start of the second period when the referee took the two teams off due to the storm that swept across the country during the afternoon.

But once they resumed, it was the Steelmen who went in front thanks to a free-kick from Aman Verma.

And they had a cushion just nine minutes later when Chris Carruthers made it 2-0 with a header from a corner.

Walker was dismissed for handball outside the penalty area and it meant Josh Carpenter came on to take over between the sticks with Nathan Rooney making way.

But the Steelmen held on to secure another away win as they moved above Hitchin in the league table.

They will be looking to make it three wins in a row when they head to Hungerford Town on Tuesday night.

Steelmen: Walker, Thomas, Jelleyman, Malone, Carruthers, McGowan, Hendrie, Rooney, Wright, Verma, Ives. Subs: Moon, Carpenter, Herbert, May.

Goals: Verma (59 mins, 0-1), Carruthers (68 mins, 0-2).

Attendance: 395.
