Chris Plummer insists Corby Town won’t be abandoning their beliefs as they prepare to take on Tamworth in the second round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy.

The Steelmen of the Blue Square Bet North travel to the Blue Square Bet Premier side looking to cause one of the upsets of the round.

Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for Plummer’s side in recent weeks but, as was shown in last weekend’s 5-3 win over bottom markers Hinckley United, keeping them out at the other end is proving an issue.

But the Corby boss insists his team will not change their mindset for this weekend, although he admits they will need to be tighter at the back if they are to stand any chance of progressing.

“It is a big opportunity for our players to show what they can do against a team from a higher level,” Plummer said.

“It is a massive test for us but I do believe that, on our day, we can be a match for a team like Tamworth.

“We try to play expansive football and get our players forward and we have scored plenty of goals in most of our matches.

“But we do need to get that balance right. It’s all very well winning games 5-3 and 3-2 but it doesn’t do a great deal for my hairline!

“We will be positive there. We need to do the things that have got us good results and if I try to take away that attacking side of our game then I will be taking away one of the strongest parts of our game.”
