With both teams flying high in the Evo-Stik League South Division One Central, a crowd of 954 were on hand to watch them do battle in knockout competition.

And it was the Steelmen who drew first blood on 24 minutes when Elliot Sandy latched onto the ball and went round home goalkeeper Jono Brown and rolled it into an empty net.

The hosts drew level seven minutes later when John Pyket converted after a spot of pinball in the Corby area.

But the Steelmen regained the lead just before half-time when they were awarded a penalty after Daniel Morris brought down Jordon Crawford. And Joel Carta stepped up to score his 10th goal of the season from the spot.

And the decisive third goal came five minutes into the second half when Connor Kennedy headed home Sam Warburton’s corner.

The win means Corby will now take on another of their league rivals Yaxley in the preliminary round at Steel Park on October 13.
