Chris Plummer insists he is in “no rush” to finish off his summer recruitment as Corby Town look forward to their opening pre-season friendly.
The Steelmen take on Conference Premier side Cambridge United at Steel Park on Wednesday night (7.45pm) as they step up their preparations for the new Calor League Premier Division campaign.
Plummer currently has just eight players on the books as he continues a summer of rebuilding.
Mark Arber, Chris Carruthers and Tom Berwick have all arrived at Corby while Paul Walker, Gareth Jelleyman, Paul Malone, Sam Ives and Josh Moreman have all agreed new deals.
Plummer confirmed the club are continuing to talk to potential other signings with a number of players having joined the Steelmen for pre-season training.
But the Corby boss feels it is a matter of “filling the gaps” after some swift early work in the transfer market.
“We have had a lot of players training with us and we are having discussions with them about joining the club,” Plummer said.
“There is a chance we will have a number of deals concluded before we play Cambridge and we obviously want to get players on board so we can get them into our style of play.
“But I am not in a big rush. We have a budget to work to and it is important we get the right players in for the right money.
“We have made some big signings already and now we must fill the gaps.
“The lads have been working hard and all the pre-season friendlies will be part of topping up their fitness.
“We certainly don’t expect the lads to be fully fit by the time we play Cambridge but the game will be another step towards it. We are looking forward to getting out there.”
