Corby Town endured a disappointing afternoon on the south coast as they went down 1-0 at Weymouth in the Calor League Premier Division in their first game of the new year.

Paul Malone and joint-manager Tommy Wright were ruled out as they served suspensions following their red cards against Hemel Hempstead at the end of last year.

It meant a debut for recent signing Nathan Stanton while Courtney Herbert was handed a place on the bench.

Aman Verma and Greg Mills both started after signing permanent deals with Corby while Stuart Hendrie also returned to the starting line-up.

There were few chances in a goalless first half with Mills going closest for Corby.

But the game was decided in the second half as Luke Burbidge struck for Weymouth and that proved to be enough.

Steelmen: Walker, Thomas, Jelleyman, Carruthers, Stanton, McGowan, Mills, Rooney, Verma, Ives, Hendrie. Subs: May, Carpenter, Herbert.
