Corby Town midfielder Ashley Sammons has been named the Vanarama National League North player of the month for August.
Sammons, who joined the Steelmen from Redditch United during the summer, made a superb start to life at Steel Park as he hit six goals in the opening month as Tommy Wright’s team enjoyed a six-match unbeaten run top open up the new campaign.
A panel chose all the monthly award winners for each of the three National League divisions.
And on naming Sammons as the winner for National League North, the panel said: “When a club is promoted into a higher level of football the first aim must be to get off to a good start and certainly the Steelmen of Corby Town have made a great start during August, only losing once and that was to Solihull Moors.
“Whilst manager Tommy Wright must take many plaudits from their fans, it is midfielder Ashley who caught the eye with several stunning strikes.
“Two of them alone have been worthy of other possible awards and he richly picks up the Vanarama player of the month award.”
Sammons and his team-mates are currently preparing for Saturday’s trip to FC United of Manchester.
