AFC Rushden & Diamonds enjoyed an impressive away-day as they claimed a 4-1 success at Uxbridge to move up to third in the Evo-Stik South League East.

Diamonds took the lead after 10 minutes when Claudiu Hoban’s cross found Ryan Robbins at the back post and his header was fumbled into the net by the home goalkeeper.

And it was 2-0 nine minutes later when Sam Brown’s header from a corner was blocked but Tom Lorraine was on hand to slam home off the underside of the crossbar.

Richard Bunting shot wide after good work from Robbins but Diamonds did make it three on the stroke of half-time when Lorraine grabbed his 60th goal for the club after cutting in from the left and firing home.

The game was ended as a contest on 66 minutes when Joe Curtis’ corner was met by Brown and Robbins got the final touch to help it over the line.

The hosts did get a consolation in stoppage-time when Callum Westwood headed into his own net but it didn’t matter as Diamonds secured a good win.

Ahead of the game, it was confirmed that midfielder Fernando Bell-Toxtle had left Diamonds to join Evo-Stik League South leaders Basford United.

Corby Town’s winning streak in the Evo-Stik League South came to a shuddering halt as they went down 3-0 at Frickley Athletic.

The hosts held a half-time lead thanks to Danny Frost’s goal on 25 minutes when he poked home after a good turn in the area.

The Steelmen had a big chance to level when Sam Mulready’s close-range shot was turned round the post by the home goalkeeper.

And Frickley made Corby pay as Jacob Hazel made it 2-0 before the same player rounded things off with nine minutes to go.

The first league defeat under caretaker-manager Steve Kinniburgh saw the Steelmen drop to sixth in the table.
