Corby Town have completed their first summer signing following the arrival of midfielder Ashley Sammons from Redditch United.
But it has been a mixed weekend for the Steelmen as far as their squad-building ahead of the Vanarama National League North campaign is concerned after boss Tommy Wright confirmed another member of last season’s Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division title-winning side is on his way out of Steel Park.
Wright revealed to the Corby Telegraph last night that left-back Stephan Morley is set to join Brackley Town while central defender Jamie Anton has now been released by the Steelmen.
However, Wright confirmed that Kalern Thomas will be staying at Corby for the next campaign and he also revealed he is close to signing four more players as his preparations continue.
But Sammons has been revealed as the club’s first summer addition and joins having scored 20 goals goals for Redditch in the Southern League Premier Division last season.
He began his career at Birmingham City and made his first-team debut in a League Cup tie at Sunderland before injury disrupted his time there.
He went on to play for Hereford United and Worcester City before joining Redditch.
And Wright said: “I am very pleased to be able to add Ashley to the squad for next season.
“He showed last season what a threat he can be from midfield and he has a great pedigree coming through Birmingham’s academy.
“He will add something different for us in the middle of the park and he is talented individual with bags of energy. He can be a key figure for us.”
