Andy Peaks has praised midfielder Dan Quigley for giving AFC Rushden & Diamonds some “bonus goals” in recent weeks.
The midfielder grabbed both goals as Diamonds booked their place in today’s (Monday) FA Cup second qualifying round draw thanks to a 2-1 victory at Bedfont & Feltham on Saturday.
The brace made it four goals in as many games for the summer signing, who also hit the winner in the preliminary round victory at Kings Langley last month.
“Dan has found a bit of form in front of goal, which is great,” the Diamonds boss said.
“His general game had already been very good but he has always been capable of scoring goals and it’s a big boost for us that he’s doing it now.
“They are bonus goals for us really and it’s very pleasing to see.”
Peaks, meanwhile, refused to be too hard on defender Jack Ashton after he was sent off during the cup success.
Bedfont had been reduced to 10 men just moments before Ashton was shown a straight red card for a lunging challenge.
And Peaks added: “I didn’t think the referee gave us a great deal to be honest.
“I will have another look at the challenge before I make a judgement but I think Jack has probably given the referee the chance to make that decision.
“He had just sent off one of their players and then Jack gave him the chance to do the same thing to us.
“But I am not going to have a go at Jack because he has been brilliant for us.
“He felt he had let the boys down and held his hands up. But we will move on, he is a massive part of our team.”
The draw for the second qualifying round is due to be made at lunchtime today.
