AFC Rushden & Diamonds’ preparations for the new Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central campaign get under way this evening (Tuesday) as the squad report back for pre-season training.
Diamonds head into new surroundings this season after claiming the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division title in emphatic style back in April.
With the vast majority of the championship-winning squad and three confirmed new signings already on board, boss Andy Peaks is looking forward to getting back in the swing of things.
And, as he revealed, the club already have a good week lined up as they begin their preparations ahead of an opening pre-season friendly at Rushden & Higham United a week on Saturday (July 11).
“I am really looking forward to getting back to it, it’s exciting to be stepping up into a new division and we are confident we can do well,” Peaks said.
“We will have a couple of training sessions this week where the focus will be on fitness and a bit of ball work.
“Then, on Saturday, we have set up a day at Overstone Park where the boys will be having a spin class, a bit of lunch and then a round of golf. We will also be getting all the forms signed as well.
“That’s going to be a good day and it will round off a very solid first week for us.
“That first pre-season game at Rushden & Higham will come round quickly but, for the time, being it’s all about getting things up and running again.”
