Josh Moreman is set to stay with Corby Town – for the time being at least.

The frontman, who finished as the club’s top scorer last season, agreed a new deal with the Steelmen for the forthcoming Calor League Premier Division campaign but has recently caught the attention of County neighbours Northampton Town.

After producing a good display against the Cobblers in the Maunsell Cup final, Moreman played for Aidy Boothroyd’s side in their friendly against a Stoke City development side.

Boothroyd admitted then that he would be keen to have another look at Moreman but Steelmen boss Chris Plummer has confirmed that is yet to happen.

Plummer and his men are preparing for their penultimate pre-season friendly at Stamford tomorrow (Wednesday) night and he believes Moreman will remain with the Steelmen.

However, he also made it clear that should the opportunity of a move to Sixfields arise then no-one at Corby will stand in the striker’s way.

“We haven’t heard anything further from Northampton just yet,” Plummer said.

“I spoke to their manager after Josh played for them and it was pretty clear that they want to see more of him.

“It is tricky because Josh has work commitments and getting the time to go and train with a professional club isn’t easy.

“The situation will work itself out but it would obviously be great for him to play at a higher level, great for us as a club to see a player progress and great for Northampton to get a young prospect.

“But Josh is still a Corby player and I am sure he will be giving his all for us as we continue to get ready for the new season.”

Plummer, meanwhile, confirmed talks are “ongoing” with a number of potential signings as he looks to complete his squad for the new campaign as the Steelmen look to bounce back from their relegation from the Conference North at the first attempt.

After visiting the Daniels tomorrow night, they take on Bishop’s Stortford at Steel Park in their final friendly on Saturday.

And the Corby boss added: “We have spoken to quite a few different players and we are still actively doing that.

“There is nothing to report at the moment but we will keep looking around for the right players to complete the squad.”
