Kinniburgh wants his table-topping Steelmen to 'kick on'

The Steelmen moved a point clear at the summit as they followed up a 6-0 drubbing of previous leaders Bromsgrove Sporting with a 5-2 success over Aylesbury FC at Steel Park.

Despite falling behind, goals from Joel Carta, Jordan Francis, Sam Grouse and an Elliot Sandy brace helped secure another comfortable victory.

Corby remain unbeaten after nine league matches this season and now sit proudly at the summit, which is exactly where boss Kinniburgh wants them to be.

“Coming into it, we were looking to have a good season and be at that top end and that’s where we have been for the whole nine games,” the Steelmen manager said.

“Now we are sitting at the top of it and it’s a bit of a different challenge because you’re not chasing.

“We have not got to see how we can address the difference of sitting at the top of the tree and seeing if we can kick on.

“We have set our stall out for what we are going to do this season.

“We have seen off the challenges, that’s a quarter of the season done and we have done well. Now we have to continue it.”

Kinniburgh was pleased to see his side follow up their impressive midweek success with another win, despite a slow start.

And he believes his team are only getting better as the season progresses.

“It’s always difficult coming off a big game in the week especially when it was here and we had everything,” he added.

“You are looking to back that up in the next game and it’s very difficult to come out of the blocks and do it again.

“We knew the only thing we really had to guard against was the counter-attack and that’s what they got that first goal from.

“But it sparked us into life and I thought we came into the game a lot more after that and we deserved to be 2-1 up at half-time and we kicked on and saw it through.

“If you are going to win any league or be at the top of any league than you have got to have that consistency.

“And that was the biggest point after the great result on Wednesday. We had to come here and do it again and we did.

“We scored another five goals and the shape is getting a lot better. They are playing for each other and now we sit top of the league and that’s what the aim was.”
