Kinniburgh happy for Corby to 'take the point and move on'

The Steelmen looked to be heading for their first defeat of the Evo-Stik League South Division One Central season after Paul Benson put the hosts, who were down to 10 men when Callum Donnelly was sent-off in the first half, in front.

Connor Kennedy saw red for Corby for a second bookable offence but they were still able to fight back and earn a share of the spoils to preserve their unbeaten league record with full-back Miles Smith being the unlikely goal hero with three minutes to go.

And, having seen his team give their all in the 3-0 defeat at Stockport County in the Emirates FA Cup just three days earlier, boss Kinniburgh was satisfied with the final outcome.

“I think we have to look at the bigger picture from the last few weeks,” he said.

“We have had a run of away matches, we have done a fair bit of travelling and at the weekend we were up against a tough opponent and it will have taken a lot out of the boys.

“And three days later we have to go away again and play a tough side who are going to be up there and challenging.

“When you take all that into consideration, we will take the point and move on.

“I think Miles scoring the equaliser pretty much summed up our performance to be honest!

“We had more than enough chances to take the lead but we just couldn’t put the ball in the net.

“The general performance wasn’t up to our usual standard and when the numbers were levelled up with Connor being sent-off we had our backs to the wall a little bit.

“But the encouraging thing is that we were still able to come back and get something and we probably could have nicked it at the end when Jake Bettles had a decent chance.

“Overall, we weren’t at our best but we have got something out of the game and that’s pleasing.”

Corby, who added frontman Sam Grouse to their squad from Stamford ahead of the game at Bedford, now switch their focus to the Buildbase FA Trophy as they host league rivals Yaxley in the preliminary round at Steel Park on Saturday.
