AFC Rushden & Diamonds made it five Evo-Stik South League East wins in a row as they beat Hartley Wintney 2-0 at Hayden Road to stay on top of the table.

Andy Peaks named an unchanged starting line-up following the 2-0 success over Cambridge City in midweek and Diamonds made most of the early running.

Joe Curtis saw a cross, which went right under the crossbar, headed clear by a defender before the best chance of the half fell to Joel Gyasi who fired wide after good work from Sam Brown.

The visitors did threaten as well without really ever troubling Ben Heath in the Diamonds goal but a big moment arrived on the hour when Steve Noakes was sent-off for bringing down Tom Lorraine as he went through on goal.

The resulting free-kick from Liam Dolman was saved but Diamonds did break the deadlock with 18 minutes to go when Ryan Robbins turned and fired home after the visitors had failed to clear Luke Fairlamb’s cross.

And the game was up on 84 minutes when Ben Farrell doubled the advantage after neat inter-play with Ben Diamond.

Diamonds are back in action on Wednesday night when they make the trip to Aylesbury United.
