AFC Rushden & Diamonds defender Liam Dolman is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a calf injury during the first game of the new season.
The centre-half pulled up with the problem after just 16 minutes of Diamonds’ 1-1 draw with Petersfield Town in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central on Saturday.
Dolman, who started the game as captain in the absence of the suspended Richard Bunting, will definitely miss tomorrow (Tuesday) night’s clash at St Ives Town.
Boss Andy Peaks was forced into a reshuffle following Dolman’s injury with Delroy Gordon, who eventually scored Diamonds’ equaliser, moving to the heart of defence while Ollie Wilkinson came on to play at right-back.
But Wilkinson will also be missing tomorrow evening, although Peaks is confident he has the squad to deal with the situation.
“It’s a massive blow to lose Liam, we are not sure how bad it’s going to be,” the Diamonds boss said.
“Hopefully he won’t be out for too long. We took him straight off when it happened.
“Liam has a massive influence on and off the pitch so it’s disappointing to lose him.
“Luckily, we have players like Delroy and Jack Ashton who can play there.
“Ollie is a steady player and probably would have started but he is away for three games now because he’s a school teacher who is going on his holidays.
“But we have a big enough squad and we will make sure we are ready for tomorrow night.”
Peaks, meanwhile, knows his team will be in for a stern test when they make the short trip to St Ives.
“They did quite well last season and it’s a hard place to go and get a result,” he added.
“They have some established players at this level and it will be a big test for us.”
