AFC Rushden & Diamonds manager Andy Peaks hopes to have defender Jack Ashton back in contention for his sides’s FA Cup Cup preliminary round tie at Kings Langley on Saturday.
Ashton watched from the sidelines as Diamonds extended their unbeaten start to the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central season with a 3-1 win over Chalfont St Peter, having been forced off early into their clash with Aylesbury United last Tuesday.
But Peaks is confident the 2014-15 fans’ player of the season will be ready for their foray into the FA Cup.
He said: “Jack’s still sore and he’s important to the squad so we didn’t want to risk him.
“When you’ve got Del (Delroy Gordon) and Bully (Liam Dolman) that’s the beauty of having them, you don’t have to play people who aren’t 100 per cent.
“He’s not a million miles away.”
Peaks also believes his squad will be fully prepared for their difficult cup tie against their league rivals.
He added: “The FA Cup is massive to us and it’s something I really want to do well in.
“We’re going to have a week of training and be ready for next Saturday which will be a really tough game, they’ve started really well and it’s a tough place to go.
“We’ve got some notes on them and we’ll be prepared to go there and hopefully get through to the next round.”
