AFC Rushden & Diamonds boss Andy Peaks expects to sign a replacement for Matt Gearing in the next few days.
Gearing left last week to join Yaxley and Peaks has moved quickly to replace him. He confirmed he’s spoken to a player and expects him to sign over the weekend.
If the move goes through, he will be the fourth new arrival as Diamonds prepare for the new season in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central after last season winning the UCL Premier Division championship.
Ollie Wilkinson, Dan Quigley and Dom Lawless all took part in the club’s first training session on Tuesday and tonight (Thursday), triallists Courtney Herbert and Jason Kilbride have their first session with the squad.
Peaks said: “The squad looks good.
“They all came back looking sharp and hungry and they all worked hard. The new players fitted in well.
“I learned a lot from that first session.
“Looking at the squad, most of them have played and done well at a higher level.
“We’ve got some good experienced players here who want to do well.”
Peaks, who says his target is a play-off place in the league won by Kettering Town last season, will get his squad signed up this weekend during a break at Overstone Park.
Diamonds have their first pre-season friendly at Rushden & Higham a week on Saturday.
