The weather ensured AFC Rushden & Diamonds missed out on a top-of-the-table clash on Tuesday night.
But they don’t have to wait long for another as they prepare to host Royston Town tomorrow (Saturday) in a match that sees second taking on fourth.
Diamonds’ Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central encounter with leaders St Ives Town – who are a point clear of Andy Peaks’ side from two games more – was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the Dog & Duck in midweek.
But Peaks is happy to have another big game to look forward to against a Royston side who were tipped by many to be title contenders this season and currently sit in fourth spot.
“It is another massive game,” the Diamonds boss said.
“They are probably the most fancied team from what I have been told and they did well last season.
“I have watched them a couple of times and they have some good, experienced players in their squad.
“For us, it’s all about keeping up the momentum.
“We had a great win down at Petersfield last weekend and we need to keep the good form going.
“But we know it will be tough.”
Peaks says winger Andy Hall “has a chance” of being fit for the clash.
But he added: “We will assess it and see how he is.
“He tweaked his groin and I just don’t want to rush him back and lose him for longer.”
