Players from three of Europe’s biggest clubs will be gracing the Steel Park pitch as part of Corby Town’s pre-season programme.

The Steelmen have confirmed details of the Steel Park Cup, which will be held on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26.

And Corby will be joined in the mini tournament by a Liverpool XI, a PSV Eindhoven XI and Porto B.

The idea for the competition, which will see all teams play twice over four matches, is the brainchild of Corby manager Tommy Wright who is busy preparing for an assault on the Vanarama National League North following his team’s stunning Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division title success at the end of last month.

The tournament will be played on a league format with the team with the most points at the end of it being crowned the winners.

On the opening day, Corby will play Porto B at midday and that will be followed by a clash between the Liverpool XI, which is expected to be an under-23 team, and the PSV XI.

On the Sunday, the Steelmen will play PSV before Liverpool and Porto B close the tournament.

And Wright is hoping the competition will catch the imagination of not only the Corby public but also football fans from the surrounding areas.

The Steelmen boss said: “It’s taken six months of hard work to pull it off but we finally have and I thank the board of directors and the sponsors for helping me make this happen and supporting my idea.

“It will be a festival of football for our fans and also the neutrals, a treat for the players and another statement of our ambition as a football club to really put it on the footballing map.

“This is a great club with good people around me, amazing fans and loyal players. This is the thank you I’ve been working on to give back to everyone.”

Steelmen chairman Stevie Noble added: “We are looking forward to hosting the tournament, which will offer our supporters the chance to see some top sides at Steel Park before the start of the new season, it will of course also provide a very competitive level of preparation for all the teams involved ahead of the 2015/2016 season.”

Club director Paul Glass, meanwhile, said: “The Steel Park Cup has been the culmination of 12 months hard work and in particular the club would like to thank Tommy for working really hard to put such a prestigious line up together along with our sponsors QPS, Willow Place and Utility Bidder.

“James Longley of Utility Bidder is moving his business to Corby and has been instrumental in supporting the club to achieve what is a huge event for not only the Football Club but the town and the county also.

“We are also in advanced talks about the possible televising of the tournament and there are some brilliant commercial opportunities for any businesses or individuals who wish to support the event for more information please email me at”
