Joel Carta has had a dream start to life at Corby Town.
The attacking midfielder joined the Steelmen after impressing in pre-season and he hasn’t looked back since.
Things had already gone pretty well for both the club and the player before last weekend.
But everyone took it up a notch as Corby claimed a superb 4-1 victory at higher-ranked Alvechurch in the second qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup.
That victory was rewarded on Monday as the Steelmen were then handed a big trip to Vanarama National League North side Stockport County in the third qualifying round a week on Saturday.
Carta was the hero as he hit a hat-trick to make it nine goals in all competitions so far this season and he has now been rewarded for his efforts after it was confirmed that he signed a contract with the club on Tuesday night.
And, with Corby still unbeaten and flying high in the Evo-Stik League South Division One Central, it’s been a near-perfect start to the new campaign.
“It’s been a great start for us,” Carta said.
“There have been a couple of games we have drawn when we probably could have won but overall, I think we are all pretty happy.
“From a personal point of view, settling into a new club has been really easy.
“The atmosphere in the dressing-room is class and it is one of the best I have been in.
“Obviously it helps when you are winning a few games but there is a really good feeling around the club and we need to keep that going.”
An interesting test lies ahead this weekend as the Steelmen head to Bromsgrove Sporting in the extra preliminary round of the Buildbase FA Trophy.
It’s a clash between the current top two in Division One Central and, perhaps, an early measuring stick with both clubs harbouring hopes of a promotion push.
League points may not be at stake on this occasion but it is a chance for two of the contenders to land a punch on each other.
And Carta added: “It should be a good game because we have both started well.
“For us, it is a chance to see where we are against another good team in our division.
“You have us, Bromsgrove and Peterborough Sports who have all started really well in the league.
“I think this game will be a good test for both teams.”
