Josh Carpenter marked his full league debut with a clean sheet as Corby Town claimed a 0-0 draw at Chippenham Town in the Calor League Premier Division.

The young goalkeeper came into the Steelmen line-up with first-choice stopper Paul Walker serving a one-match ban after being sent off in the 2-0 win at Hitchin Town two weeks ago.

That was the only change to the Corby starting 11 with Tom McGowan and Nathan Stanton still ruled out through injury while Courtney Herbert was also missing.

And Carpenter was able to celebrate a clean sheet in the west country, although the Steelmen were unable to find a breakthrough against the struggling hosts.

Joint-manager Tommy Wright had an effort ruled out for offside in the first half but they were forced to settle for a point, which kept them in 11th spot in the table.

Corby’s home clash with Cambridge City, which was due to take place at Steel Park on Wednesday, has been called off due to Cambridge having to play a county cup match.

The Steelmen will return to action when they host Truro City at Steel Park next Saturday.

Steelmen: Carpenter, Thomas, Jelleyman, Malone, Carruthers, Ives, Mills, Rooney, Wright, Verma, Hendrie. Subs: May, Barton, Wilson.

Attendance: 337.
