Law wants Poppies to build as they finally return home

The Poppies are due to take on struggling Frome Town at Latimer Park this evening in what will be their first outing in front of their own supporters since the 0-0 draw with Cambridge City on December 5.

Kettering’s stop-start opening to 2016 has seen them fall off the pace in the race for an Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division place but they got the campaign back on track with an excellent 2-0 win at second-placed Chippenham Town at the weekend.

Frome arrive this evening sitting eight points adrift of safety but have seven games in hand on Histon who are hovering just above the relegation zone.

But Law is keen to see his team follow up their weekend win as a run of three home games in a row gets under way.

“It’s all about building on Saturday for us,” the Poppies boss said.

“We went about the start of the game a bit differently and it worked for us.

“Now we have to make sure we go out in front of our own supporters and do our best to get another run going.

“Our opponents have got a long journey and we have to do what we can to exploit that.

“We need to get some consistency when we are playing teams who are lower than us in the table. We have had some decent results against teams who are right up there but we have let ourselves down when playing those further down.

“We need to be beating these teams and pushing ourselves on towards the play-off places.

“Our home form before the break from playing there was good and we will need to replicate that.”

Law revealed he will need to assess a few “knocks and bruises” in his squad ahead of the game while he also confirmed goalkeeper Paul Walker has resumed “light training” having suffered a nasty head injury during the 3-2 defeat at Weymouth on January 21.

Craig Hill has been playing in goal for the Poppies since then and kept a clean sheet during Saturday’s success.
