The match with Northern Star is followed on Thursday by an away game at Soham Town.

Kettering then play Rugby Town in a double-header for the Newlands Shield with the first game on Saturday and the second leg on Tuesday.

It signals a step up for Marcus Law in his men ahead of their Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division season.

"We're working really hard and there are lots of minutes of football to be played over the next few days," the manager said.

"This is stage where we really begin to get into competitive mode to make sure we are ready for Dorchester.

"I'm pleased with the way things have gone so far. We would have liked to have some tougher tests but that was not able to happen.

"But we've done well and the squad has stayed together.

"I've only lost one player from last season and I would definitely have taken that if you had offered it to me.

"Because of the way we played last season I wanted to keep this group together and we've been able to do that and we're in good shape."

Poppies have also made an addition to their squad with former Rushden & Diamonds striker Sam Smith signing on for the club.
