Law knows Poppies must deal in wins only

The Poppies have 11 games remaining in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division and time is beginning to run out as they make one last desperate bid to gatecrash the play-off places.

For the unlikely scenario to happen, Law’s men will have to win the vast majority of their remaining matches and hope for mistakes above them.

An example happened on Tuesday night as two goals from Aaron O’Connor and a winner from Rene Howe sealed a 3-2 success at Dunstable Town.

At the same time, fifth-placed Slough Town slipped to a 2-1 loss at bottom side Cinderford Town which allowed Kettering to move back to within nine points.

It remains a huge ask for Law and his team as they prepare to take on Chesham United at Latimer Park this weekend.

Chesham are three points behind the Poppies with two games in hand and Law is well aware that his team can’t afford any more slip-ups if they are to pull off the near-impossible.

“Some results went for us and we have said for the past couple of weeks that all the teams at the top still have to play each other,” the Kettering boss said.

“That remains the case and if they don’t slip-up then they will deserve their rewards.

“But the simple truth is we can’t afford any slip-ups.

“I think the determination and willingness within the squad showed itself again on Tuesday night.

“By hook or by crook we got a result and we have to maintain that attitude.

“The remaining 11 games are huge ones for us and we go into them knowing that in this division you can soon come unstuck if you don’t get everything right.

“It doesn’t matter who we are up against, we have to get maximum points, it’s as simple as that.

“If you look at the form guide over the last 20 games, we are in the top four and that’s the sort of form we have to take into the last few matches.”
