The Poppies led 1-0 at the break thanks to Ben Stephens before further goals from Liam Canavan, Spencer Weir-Daley who also saw a penalty saved by Chris Hurling, Jonny Joyce and Brett Solkhon rounded off a routine success.

Law is set to field another strong squad when his team head to Rushden & Higham United tomorrow (Thursday) night and they then travel to AFC Kempston Rovers on Saturday.

“It was all about minutes, I wasn’t too worried about the result but when you have these local games you are always hoping that the quality comes through in the end and it did,” Law said.

“But for me, this whole week is all about getting minutes for the lads.

“We have had two hard-working weeks and this is all about reminding them about shape and patterns of play.

“It was a bit over-zealous to begin with but once the game calmed down it was a decent encounter.

“It will be the same group for the game tomorrow and then we will look at Saturday as a chance to start fine tuning people in positions.

“It will be the same again next Tuesday (at Arlesey Town) and everyone will feature in the charity game a week on Saturday.

“From there, it will be a case of really pushing on towards the start of the season.”

As expected, midfielder Nathan Hicks featured for the Poppies as he looks to earn a deal for the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division campaign while former Barwell centre-half Blaize Punter was also involved.
