Kinniburgh looks ahead as Corby prepare for quick return to action

Kinniburgh, who heads up the academy at Steel Park, has been Corby’s caretaker-manager since David Bell was sacked at the end of September.

The Steelmen’s season has fluctuated from one extreme to the other since then with a superb start under Kinniburgh being followed by a losing streak over Christmas and into the new year.

They are now on the back of two successive defeats, the latest of which was Saturday’s 5-2 loss at Lincoln United, which has all-but ended any hope of them finishing in the Evo-Stik League South.

Corby are straight back into action tonight (Monday) when they take on Kidsgrove Athletic at Steel Park.

But the big question people are now asking is whether it will indeed be Kinniburgh who is charged with leading the Steelmen into next season as well as doing his job of leading the club’s academy.

“It’s a question that is obviously on everyone’s minds and it’s a question for those higher up,” Kinniburgh said.

“That’s up to them and what they think going forward.

“With the full-time academy and the sort of player we are producing from it, I see that being a good part of the squad for next season.

“If it is me being a part of it going forward then I will be looking at getting the younger boys involved but then bringing in the players of real high quality who can progress the club in the short term and the long.”

Despite the weekend loss at Lincoln, Kinniburgh says he saw enough to suggest that having another match this evening will be no bad thing for his players.

“I think it will help getting straight back into it,” he added.

“Generally, it was good. There were lots of good parts in the game.

“We created a lot of chances and there was heart and desire to win the ball in midfield.”
