Kinniburgh disappointed as Steelmen are beaten
Steve Kinniburgh was left disappointed after Corby Town suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Lincoln United.
The Steelmen trailed 3-0 until late on until Paul Malone and Visan-Vasile Cretu scored in stoppage-time to make the scoreline look more respectable as they tasted defeat at Steel Park for the first time since Kinniburgh took caretaker charge.
Substitute Sam Mulready had a penalty saved when the score was 2-0 but it proved to be a day to forget for Corby, who dropped to eighth in the Evo-Stik League South as a result.
And Kinniburgh was unimpressed with various aspects of his team’s display.
He said: “The scoreline looks respectable to some extent but we have lost three goals at home. It’s not good enough.
“We are not doing the right things at the right times in the game and we need to be able to be in the game.
“If you go back to Frickley, we were out of the game with 20 minutes to go. In this one, we were out of the game with 20 minutes to go.
“We are absolutely killing ourselves and we have got to change that round quite quickly.
“We have to deal with what teams are going to do better to keep ourselves in games.
“We have just got to better at the general side of the game.
“A lot of teams are going to come here and set up to either nick it or get a point because that’s the sort of club we are.
“And we have got to have that mentality in the dressing-room to deal with that and to have the knowhow to win games from nothing.
“We don’t quite have that at the moment and that’s why I am disappointed.”
Kinniburgh admitted his team struggled at both ends of the pitch as they struggled to take the chances they created while their defensive frailties were on full show.
“Two chances in the first half, they score two goals,” he added.
“We have hit the bar and missed two chances inside the six-yard box in the first half and their goalkeeper has made a good save from the free-kick.
“On chances in the first half, it was fairly even but they scored two and we didn’t.
“We started the second half well and we have had a header just outside the six-yard box and the keeper has made another great save and we have had other chances.
“Creating chances was probably the best part of our game but scoring those chances and defending our goal were really poor.
“It’s a bit disappointing because we are well into what we are doing now and I am disappointed with the way we defended.”
