Kettering Town maintained their relentless march towards the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central title with a 4-1 thumping of Hanwell Town at Latimer Park.

The Poppies were in control from the moment James Clifton put them in front before David Kolodynski, Josh Moreman and Brett Solkhon all got in on the act for the champions-elect.

Joint-bosses Thomas Baillie and Scott Machin were forced into one change to the starting line-up following the superb 5-0 victory over Egham Town on Tuesday night.

Tommy Hull was ruled out due to illness and that meant an instant return to the side for Clifton while Reubus Richard-Noel was fit enough to start on the bench after he suffered an eye injury following clash of heads against Egham.

After an even first 20 minutes, it was the Poppies who made the breakthrough when Kolodynski held the ball up and found Clifton who fired home at the second attempt after his first shot was blocked.

Kettering went on to have the better chances and Andy Hall saw his shot go just past the post before Kolodynski had an effort deflected over the bar.

But the frontman wasn’t to be denied as he doubled the advantage on 35 minutes.

He received a pass from Elliot Sandy and his first-time effort gave visiting goalkeeper Alex Tokarczyk no chance.

The Poppies put the result beyond doubt eight minutes into the second half when Moreman’s run ended with an excellent 25-yard strike, which beat Tokarczyk.

Hanwell responded with Tom Duffy looping a header just over the bar but it was the Poppies who continued to press as Tokarczyk saved a Kolodynski volley before Hall’s shot went just over.

And the game was wrapped up 11 minutes from full-time when James Jepson’s free-kick was met by Solkhon who finished well.

Hanwell did pull a goal back late on when Bill Healy headed home at the near post.

But it was nothing more than a consolation as the Poppies clinched yet another comfortable win.
