Kettering Town kicked off their pre-season programme with a 2-1 success at St Neots Town.
The Poppies took a first-half lead through Louis Hamilton and before Jake Newman grabbed the second after the break. The hosts pulled a goal back from the penalty spot but that was the end of the scoring.
Boss Dean Thomas used 18 players during the opening friendly with last season’s player-of-the-year Henry Eze making an appearance while ex-Poppies youngster Ollie Goddard also featured having returned from a spell in the United States.
The Poppies have now confirmed they have offered Eze a deal for the new campaign while they also revealed that striker Jermaine Clarke, who featured at St Neots, has now agreed terms for the new campaign.
In other news, Kettering will take on Daventry Town at home in the first round of the Southern League’s Red Insure Cup. The tie is likely to be played on Tuesday, October 15.
ChromaSpot & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division side Desborough Town, meanwhile, also got their pre-season campaign under way at the weekend.
Steve Walker’s team were beaten 2-0 at home by Loughborough Dynamo.
